Moving towards 2025🌟: Celebrating the inclusive milestones of 2024

Hello, my people!

Like every new beginning of cycles, the end of the year invites us to reflect, and from Come Out!, I want to thank you for accompanying me on this journey towards a more inclusive society. Although 2024 presented too many challenges for the entire LBGTQ+ community - and diversities in general - it also gave us reasons to celebrate and remain optimistic.

Today I wanted to highlight 5 significant achievements for inclusion and the LGBTQ+ community in 2024 that show us that, despite the difficulties, we are on the right path:

  1. Advances in equal marriage and non-discrimination policies🏳️🌈:

    • Thailand : In June 2024, Thailand approved same-sex marriage, becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to recognize this right.

    • Greece : Legalized same-sex marriage in February 2024, consolidating this right in more than 60% of European Union countries.

    • Nepal : Approved a framework for same-sex unions, advancing the recognition of LGBTQ+ rights.

    • Bolivia and Latvia : Implemented civil unions for same-sex couples, strengthening rights and legal protection.

  2. Greater visibility of trans people in leadership positions✨ :

    • Sarah McBride : Delaware State Senator Sarah McBride continues to be a global icon, leading inclusive policies and becoming the first openly transgender person to hold office at this level in the United States.

    • Trinidad González : Mexican trans actress who starred in the series “ El secreto del Rio ” on Netflix, making trans stories visible in the entertainment industry.

    • Arjun Subramonian : Artificial intelligence specialist in California, working to address LGBTIQ+ biases in technology.

Also, this year the LGBTQ+ Olympics 🏅 were held in Guadalajara, Mexico, an event that celebrated diversity and sporting talent, with the participation of thousands of LGBTQ+ athletes from around the world. This event not only put the spotlight on equality in sport, but also promoted a message of global inclusion, plus there was a record number of LGBTQ+ athletes at the Paris Olympics, as well as representation from queer artists and Drag Queens! 👑

  1. Companies promoting real inclusion policies 💼 :

More and more companies around the world are moving towards inclusion by implementing policies that promote gender equity and celebrate diversity in their workforces. Through initiatives such as certifications from global programs, such as HRC Equity , alliances with Out & Equal or their participation in collaborative networks such as Pride Connection or Diversity Chambers, many organizations are leading the change towards more inclusive work environments. From training to raise awareness among their staff to creating safe and welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ people, these companies demonstrate that diversity not only transforms corporate culture, but also drives innovation and improves business results.

4. Support for LGBTQ+ refugees🤝:

2024 was a key year for the strengthening of global initiatives aimed at protecting LGBTQ+ people facing persecution in their countries of origin. International organizations and governments of inclusive countries have worked together to offer resettlement programs, legal assistance and psychological support to refugees. This support has not only saved lives, but has also allowed many people to rebuild their life projects in environments where they are accepted and valued.

  1. Inclusive education as an emerging standard📚:

Several countries adopted school curricula that recognize and celebrate diversity, helping to form more aware and empathetic generations. The creation of safe spaces in educational environments, such as student support groups and training for teaching staff, reinforces the message that inclusive education is key to building a more just and equitable future. Finally, several Courts in the USA rejected limitations against policies such as " Don't Say Gay " or others that directly attacked trans people and the rest of the LGBTQ+ community in schools and universities.

Looking to 2025 with optimism

Although the advance of conservative ideologies creates uncertainty, it also challenges us to redouble our efforts. For 2025, we see promising signs:

  • Strengthened global collaborations🌍 : International equality networks continue to come together, sharing resources and strategies to address common challenges.

  • Greater emphasis on intersectionality🧩 :The recognition of the multiple identities that make up people continues to gain space in inclusive policies.

  • New technologies at the service of inclusion💡 : From accessibility tools to awareness platforms, innovation will be key to promoting equality and combating discrimination. It will be crucial to work to reduce AI biases in all processes in which it is applied.

At Come Out!, we believe that every step counts, and 2025 will be another opportunity to demonstrate that inclusion is not only the right path, but also the most transformative.

Happy holidays and a great 2025! 🎉
